What happens to soapUI? Business as usual.
Will it be discontinued? No way!
Here are the questions for all our existing users. Read the Existing user FAQ.
What will happen to soapUI?
Nothing. We will continue developing soapUI with regular releases for the Open Source Community.
Will you discontinue the Open Source version?
As we said, no. The commercial release has two purposes:
- Provide support and functionality that has benefits for commercial users
- To ensure that the Open Source version is not discontinued.
As we see it the commercial will really benefit the Open Source community. By making eviware a commercial venture we can make sure that soapUI has a sustainable future.
Will the Open Source version be without a lot of functionality or perform worse?
No. All versions will contain the same base functionality, soapUI will not be "crippled" in any way as is common with other free/commercial offerings. We will only add additional features in soapUI Pro that we believe are valuable for the professional user.
Difficult to understand? Here's an example, both soapUI and soapUI Pro contain a property transfer step, but in soapUI Pro we have added a wizard for automatic creation of required XPath statements, saving time and ensuring correctness for our users. This is something that is valuable for the professional user, since as we all know; time is a lot of money for The Enterprise.
The main reason though for getting the professional license is our excellent support. This leads us to another question we have gotten a lot since announcing soapUI Pro.
You always answer any support questions so quickly over at sourceforge. Will you stop doing that?
We do not plan to nor do we think it will happen, but as you understand paying customers are our number one priority.
We've made our own modifications to soapUI to better fit our needs, can I use these with soapUI Pro as well?
As long as you haven't changed any public API's in soapUI, you can just replace the soapui-XXX.jar in the soapUI Pro lib folder with your own and everything should be ok. Please note though that we will not provide professional support for soapUI Pro based on a modified soapUI core.
Will you continue to host soapUI on sourceforge?
Yes. sourceforge is our preferred channel for both distribution and continued development and support for soapUI.
Why isn't soapUI Pro Open Source?
We do not not release the source code for the soapUI Pro Plugin functionality. The reason for this... let us say for security reasons. We sincerely hope to be able to release soapUI Pro as a commercial product with an Open Source license in the future.
